The Health Corner Vol. 25 – The Starfish Story

Starfish and humans have very little in common. Starfish live in the ocean because God designed them for the ocean and His ocean provides everything they need. We live on land because God designed us for land and His land provides everything we need. However, there is something we share with the starfish, something that’s better explained by the Starfish Story.

There was a wise man that would go to the ocean whenever he wanted to write. He would walk on the sand and relax a little bit before he worked on whichever project he had for the day. And, as he looked along the beach he saw what was clearly a person dancing by the water. So, he ran to catch up, and as he got closer he could see it was a younger man throwing something out into the sea.

He was puzzled by the young man’s actions so he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?”

After a pause, the young man replied, “Throwing the starfish back into the ocean.”

“I guess I should have asked why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?”

“The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

“But, young man, don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”

Politely, the young man listened.

Then, he threw another starfish out to sea and said, “For this one, it made all the difference in the world.”

After reading that, try to envision the world if everyone thought like the young man? Would there be any starfish left to throw out into the ocean if everyone looked and everyone threw? How does one make a difference in the world? Simple things, like kids who get together and volunteer to help their neighbors one at a time, churches and charities that put so much time into helping suffering people. Are these works that can be done all at once? Do they take care of everyone at the same time?

No.

But we look to God. God has a plan that will take care of every one of His ‘starfish’, both the multicolored ones in the ocean, or those of us living on land. And He is pleased to use many tools.

One of the major concerns of all people in the world is their health. Is there anybody out there who actually wants to be unhealthy? But, there are so many different ways people define health. Some people think they’re healthy just because they’re thin. Some people think they’re healthy if they have no diseases, be they as minor as a cold or as major as cancer. And everyone has their own idea of achieving good health. Almost all say “eat right, exercise a lot”. But then, what is ‘right’, and how do you find an exercise program that is ‘right’ for you? What if you just jog all the time? Or, you could just search and spend a lot of money trying to find out what will work for you. What about eating fewer carbohydrates, less fat, fewer calories? It all seems so complicated, doesn’t it?

Perhaps all of the above-mentioned ideas contain some truth, but God is about peace and order, not chaos and confusion. Just as He has given us our bodies, He has also given us proper food and tenets of health as individual as we each are. At Milford Chiropractic Clinic, we believe in clinically designed nutrition. We strive to help each of our patients to find the proper program that will help them to reach their highest level of health, through the tools God has given us, such as Nutrition Response Testing and the chiropractic principle.

We want to do our part, helping to make the world a healthier place … one person at a time.

Until we meet again, here’s to your good health.
